Naomi Tadmor: The Settlement of the Poor and the Rise of the Form

29 October, 2015 @ 5:30 pm - 7:15 pm

Free

Professor Naomi Tadmor (Lancaster University) is a historian with strong interdisciplinary research interests. She has published on the history of the family and community relations, history and literature, and the social and cultural history of the English Bible from the early modern period to modernity.

She is also active as an investigator in the Corpus Research in Early Modern English (CREME) research group at Lancaster.

In the second lecture of the 2015 Visiting Speaker Series, Professor Tadmor will examine the relationship between the law, civil society, and print culture, exploring how the legislation concerning the settlement of the poor, enacted in England since the seventeenth century, gave rise to an administrative system where settlement certificates and forms were increasingly employed.

This event is part of the SCEMS Visiting Speaker lecture & masterclass series.
