Dr Jessica Winston, Not-Shakespeare in Performance

8 February, 2019 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

Dr Jessica Winston (Idaho State University) will be leading a masterclass on Friday 8 February (abstract below) Places are free and open to staff and students; if you are a member of staff, please e-mail the SCEMS co-ordinator to be added to the reserve list, if you are a student please register via this link.

This seminar invites participants to raise methodological and theoretical questions about researching not-Shakespeare in performance. Two brief articles, one by Emma Smith and one by Peter Kirwan, will provide a starting place for the discussion. The discussion can range widely based on the interests of the participants, but some topics might include: performance criticism in the absence of performance history; archives for researching not-Shakespeare in performance; issues with terminology (not-Shakespeare, early modern, Tudor, etc.), and not-Shakespeare versus Shakespeare performance criticism.
